Dot Book

You know what the job earned. Do you know what it cost?

Dot Book is a ready-made system for workshops and repair businesses. It tracks parts out of your stock and into customer jobs, adds up what each item truly cost you by the time it is finished, and shows what you made when it sells. Set up on whatever you already have — a phone, a tablet, a laptop or a desktop — with your stock and customers loaded for you.

One counter, one book.
Dot Book runs on a single device and everything lives there — that is why it is fast, private and cheap. If you need two tills talking to each other, or to check takings from home, tell us and we will say so honestly.

Most workshops know their turnover. Very few know their margin.

A unit comes in. You put a part on it from the shelf. Someone spends two hours on it. It goes out the door at a price that felt about right. The money is real, but the cost is a guess — because the part was never written down against the job, and the hours never made it onto paper.

Do that fifty times a month and the business is running on a feeling. Dot Book replaces the feeling with a number.

How it actually works

  1. An item comes in. You record what it cost you, or that it belongs to a customer.
  2. You take a part off the shelf for the job. The stock count drops on its own.
  3. You add the work done. The true cost of that item updates as you go.
  4. It sells, or the customer collects. You see the profit on that one item.
  5. Everything stays on the item’s history — every part, every repair, every customer.

What it costs

One price, set up for you, no per-user charges and nothing hidden. Compare that to workshop software charging by the seat every month.

Only if you want it

We come and set it up

R4,500once-off, plus the same R750 per month

Gqeberha and Nelson Mandela Bay

Most shops never need this — setting it up over a call takes about an hour and we do it together. If you would rather we came and did it at your counter, loaded your stock beside you and did your first cash-up with you, we will.

Straight about what this costs: R750 a month is the whole price. There is no activation fee, no setup fee, no per-till fee and no percentage of what you sell — which is the part worth reading twice, because the tills advertised as free per month take a cut of every card sale, forever. Ours does not grow when you do. The full price list is here.

What Dot Book does not do

We would rather tell you now than have you find out later.

  • Your information lives on the device it is installed on. It is not in the cloud.
  • It does not sync between devices. One business, one device. A tablet on the counter is the most common choice, but a phone, a laptop or a desktop runs it exactly the same way.
  • It is not accounting software and does not talk to your accountant’s system.
  • It does not do payroll, SARS e-filing, or VAT returns.

That is why the backup matters. The app shares a backup file from your device to your own WhatsApp, email or folder, so a lost or broken device is an inconvenience rather than a disaster. We never hold a copy. You can also export everything to a spreadsheet yourself, whenever you like. It is your information, not ours.

It is already running in a real business

Dot Book is not a prototype. The first version was built for a local specialist retail and repair business here in Gqeberha, handed over, and it is being used in that business now. We name clients only with their written permission, so a fuller case study will follow.

Ten minutes with a tablet on your counter. You will know in the first two whether it is for you.
